Barbara Dubovich Recognized for Extraordinary Leadership and Service

Alaska Council CEO Barbara Dubovich was one of ten women honored in December as 2011 YWCA Women of Achievement. Together with the Alaska Council board, we all join in applauding Barb for her tireless commitment to ensuring the best possible experiences for Alaska’s youth and families.

Barbara began her career with Alaska Council in the fall of 1981 as a Site Director. That next school year, Barb was promoted to the position of After-School Program Director, a position she would hold until the fall of 1999, when she became the council’s Deputy Director. In 2002 she was named as the Interim Executive Director and a few months later became the CEO. Thirty-one years with the same organization is an accomplishment in and of itself. Barb is an extraordinary leader, demonstrating tremendous focus and resiliency, empowering all who come to know her to thrive in spite of the odds.

Barb was instrumental in taking Camp Fire USA from a club model program to an organization focused on providing safe places for Alaska’s children and vital support for working families. To do so has taken tremendous dedication and focus. Through it all, Barb started a family, received her master’s degree in education, and worked her way up through the Alaska Council management to become the CEO of one of the largest nonprofits in Alaska and a highly respected leader in the Camp Fire national network.

Not only is Barb a woman of great achievement, but she is also the face of resiliency, a role model for all women.
