CAMP FIRE USA PARTNERS WITH CORPORATION FOR NATIONAL & COMMUNITY SERVICE FOR SUMMER OF SERVICE
Kansas City, MO - Camp Fire USA, one of the nation's leading youth development organizations, is pleased
to announce the receipt of a $197,505 grant from the Corporation of National & Community Service to engage
young people, especially those from disadvantaged circumstances, in service-learning during the summer
months.
Summer can be a difficult time for youth who do not have access to positive development opportunities.
The Summer of Service initiative recognizes the potential of all youth to contribute in meaningful ways
to the communities in which they live through volunteer service. According to recent research, youth who
are involved in their communities through service do better in school, engage in fewer risky behaviors,
have a better sense of self, and feel more empowered to make a difference in their own lives than youth
who do not participate in volunteer activities.
In order to reach youth across the country, Camp Fire USA has selected eight councils to receive sub-grants:
- Camp Fire USA Orange County Council (Santa Ana, CA)
- Camp Fire USA Towazi Council (Bogalusa, LA)
- Camp Fire USA Patuxent Area Council (Bowie, MD)
- Camp Fire USA Midlands Council (Omaha, NE)
- Camp Fire USA Northwest Ohio Council (Findlay, OH)
- Camp Fire USA Tejas Council (Waco, TX)
- Camp Fire USA Central Puget Sound Council (Seattle, WA)
- Camp Fire USA Snohomish Council (Everett, WA)
The Councils will use the Summer of Service funding to engage middle school-aged youth in their
communities in at least 50 hours of service-learning during the summer months. With the Camp Fire
USA motto of 'Give Service,' service-learning and community service opportunities are at the core
of what Camp Fire offers youth and their families.
Camp Fire USA
Camp Fire USA is one of the nation's leading nonprofit youth
development organizations, serving 750,000 participants
