Camp Fire USA teens across the United States are participating in Prepare Today - Lead Tomorrow, a new community preparedness
service-learning initiative to help children and families in their communities prepare for natural and human-made emergencies.
Through this service-learning experience, teens are:
- Learning about community preparedness.
- Assessing their communities' emergency preparedness resources.
- Selecting projects that will best help youth and families become more prepared.
- Building partnerships with local agencies.
- Actively leading projects which will result in youth and families becoming prepared.
Camp Fire USA and Learn and Serve America have teamed up to support this initiative. The goals are to:
- Engage teens in intensive service-learning experiences.
- Create opportunities for youth to have key leadership roles in community preparedness efforts.
- Improve the level of preparedness in families, schools and communities.
The success of this initiative depends on partnerships formed with local organizations, such as the American Red Cross,
local emergency response organizations, community centers and schools.
